 A brief introduction to the work of Arthur Koestler and his investigations into the paranormal. While the article mostly focuses on Koestler as pioneer of parapsychology and synchronicity, his other accomplishments are vast, spanning fields as diverse as cognitive science, journalism, and anthropology. For instance, he devised a systemic theory of Open Hierarchical Systems. He was also among the first to experiment with LSD, although he later challenged the defense of drugs as presented in Aldous Huxley's The Doors of Perception.
Koestler also wrote the much-underrated anti-Stalinist novel, Darkness at Noon, which sits among the greatest political works of fiction ever penned.
Koestler's 1980 volume, Bricks to Babel, anthologizes passages from most of his books and offers new commentary from the author himself, serving as a comprehensive introduction to his work.
